Designing and sculpting the characters for a modern children’s entertainment property.

It’s no secret that the iconic children’s entertainment franchises of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s are a major influence upon pretty much everything that I do with Galaxxor. So, when my friends from One Eyed Robot approached me with the opportunity to handle visual design, sculpture and production of the characters for their Dollar Toy Squad project, I jumped at the opportunity! Being a program that combines stop motion with traditional and digital animation, the figures that I produced are essentially (visually, at least) the characters of the show. It was really fun to take a certain amount of my visual signifiers and apply them to a variety of character tropes, based around the sort of knockoff toys that one would find in a discount shop. It was also quite interesting to find that balance between something that looked like a polished final product, but also something that looked like it came from the dollar store, in terms of execution.

Keep an eye out for Dollar Toy Squad! Coming soon to television and small screen via Pocket.Watch. One Eyed Robot did an amazing job of putting something together that could easily be this generation’s big entertainment property. If you’ve got kids, I’m sure they’ll be telling you about it!
